What it does
- Learns a business from its own content (Knowledge Base): a website address or sitemap, files (PDF, TXT, DOC, DOCX, XLSX, XLS, XML), Text, Q&A and Notion. New Text and Q&A answers are used after the owner clicks Retrain Chatbot.
- Answers customers' questions only from that content, 24/7. When it doesn't know, it says so.
- Channels: a website chatbot (floating chat widget, iframe embed or direct link; works on more than one website; optional domain allow-list), Facebook Messenger, Instagram DMs (Instagram professional account) and Slack (answers questions in Slack DMs and channels).
- Owners test answers in the Playground before going live. Playground tests don’t use answers.
- Runs on OpenAI’s GPT-4o-mini.

Leads, inbox and analytics
- Leads come from the website chatbot’s leads form: name, email, phone and preferred contact method (each field can be switched on or off). Messenger and Instagram don’t collect leads.
- With lead emails turned on (Settings → Notifications), each new lead is emailed to the owner straight away. A leads report and a conversations report can also be emailed daily, weekly or monthly.
- HubSpot, Zapier, n8n and webhooks receive each lead as it arrives. Slack does not receive leads.
- The Free plan collects up to 20 leads a month; paid plans collect unlimited leads, with export.
- One Inbox shows every conversation and lead from the website, Messenger and Instagram. Staff can’t reply from it yet (live chat is coming soon).
- Analytics dashboard (Growth and Business): total chats, messages and leads, chat volume over time, chats by channel and by country, and thumbs up/down feedback, for any date range.

Plans and pricing
- Australian customers see and pay AUD, including GST. Everyone else pays USD.
- Every plan is a flat price with a monthly allowance of answers. An answer is one reply the chatbot sends to a customer on the website, Messenger, Instagram or Slack. Allowances reset monthly and don’t roll over.
- The Free plan is free forever: 100 answers a month, no card needed.
- Starter, Growth and Business have a 7-day free trial with a card. Plans are month to month, with no contract; cancel anytime. Paying annually gives 3 months free.
- Remove "Powered by SmartChatAI": $19 a month inc. GST (US$15) on Free and Starter; included on Growth and Business.
- +500 answers a month: $10 a month inc. GST (US$7) on paid plans. Other extras: extra chatbots, extra storage and extra team members.
- Done-for-you set-up: $449 one-off inc. GST (US$299). We aim to have it live on your website within 3 business days. The 3 business days start once we have your website address and a way to add the code. Set-up is included on the Business plan.

Data and security
- Data is stored on Amazon Web Services in the United States (us-east-1), plus the AI and search services behind the chatbot. Not Australian-hosted. No SOC 2.
- HTTPS for the website, dashboard and chat. The database is encrypted at rest. Access tokens for connected accounts are stored encrypted. Passwords are hashed; Google sign-in is available. Payments go through Stripe.
- Data is backed up automatically every day; backups are kept for 7 days, in the US.
- SmartChatAI doesn’t train AI models on customer content or chats. OpenAI doesn’t use API data to train its models, and keeps it for up to 30 days to monitor for abuse.
- Chats and leads are kept while the account is open. To delete data, email hello@smartchatai.io.

Partner program
- 40% of each referred customer’s subscription payments for their first 12 months, then 20% for the next 12, on net revenue. A US$100 bonus when a referred customer buys set-up. Paid monthly in US dollars through Stripe.

- Not offered: SmartChatAI doesn't answer phone calls, and there's no custom domain for the chat.
